Regions

For fun I thought I would do a series of blog posts about the Oklahoman regions. Oklahoma has six regions that all counties are classified in; Red Carpet Country, Green Country, Kiamichi Country, Lake and Trail Country, Frontier Country, and Great Plains Country. Each country has its own characteristics, traits, and customs (such as festivals, ect.). Each Oklahoma Region post will be about the different aspects of each country giving you a view into that Country, because each region has their different pros and cons and I would like to help you see what each region is like. Hopefully this will be a good series of post to help you survive Oklahoma!

Survive Oklahoma?

I just want to apologize for the long wait for this post. I've been sick the past couple of days.

I have always gotten the question, "Why Oklahoma? Isn't Oklahoma just a buncha' red necks?" Well that is a great question! Oklahoma is a different place, but it is one of the best places to live.

I remember having a pastor that just got out of seminary in Michigan tell me that he tought Oklahoma was a "(yes, we need quotes for this) a one horse town". Come on! 3.6 million people! That's about 7x's the population of Iceland. Well, Iceland has less population than Tulsa.

One great thing about Oklahoma is the different terrains. By that I mean that Oklahoma has a wide range of weather and climates. I've seen a lot of Oklahoma and every where you go has a different enviroment. Oklahoma has something to offer for everyone! In east Oklahoma is the Ozark hills. If a arid/deserty feel is what you like the pan handle has that. (Yes I've been to the pan handle and trust me... God doesn't even go there!) Oklahoma even has a wide viraty of lakes ....excluding Tenkiller. If you are an Okie and still not getting that we need to have a talk!

Really Oklahoma is a great place. There is a piece of Oklahoma for everyone, it's just some have to chew harder!

In the Mood for Okie' Art?

Philbrook museum of Art is one of the best and beautiful places to visit in Oklahoma! Philbrook museum was the home of an oilman, Waite Phillips. This mansion/museum is a Italian Renaissance villa, designed buy the Kansas City architect Edward Buehler Delk. This stunning 72 room mansion sits on 23 acres and is a marvel. In those 23 acres is stunning gardens all with the Italian Renaissance. The gardens actually have some of the features of the classic Italian Renaissance to make you feel like you are in Italy.

Inside the mansion is one of the most renowned art exhibits in America. The art exhibits range all the way from Native American art to Japanese art from the Edo period. Many of the art exhibits are traveling collections from around the world so each trip has something new to offer. Philbrook offers features work from such masters as Piero di Cosimo, Gentile da Fabriano, Biagio d'Antonio da Firenze, Tanzio da Varallo, and Bernardo Strozzi.

Philbrook offers a wide range of styles from classic Renaissance prints to Contemporary art. Philbrook also offers a great range of Native American art which is absolutely beautiful and educational to all ages.

Philbrook is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy life and well..... it makes a fun trip too!
